Originally, the nutmeg comes from the Banda Islands. It grows on a tree and is covered by a reddish blossom of mace, which is also used in the kitchen. The taste of nutmeg is warm and highly aromatic and tart spicy to slightly sweet. It is used for sweet and salty food, for example in potato dishes, rice, stews, soups and many hot drinks.
